The best content compliment

Do people see themselves in the content you put out into the world? Maybe even to the point they think you're talking about them? That's not necessarily a bad thing.

The best content compliment

At first, I was confused. This person was telling me that a recent post was about them.

I’ll be honest: I actually had to go and look to see what post they were talking about.

I plan content months in advance and I have help with publishing, so I wasn’t sure which post it was about.

We carried on the conversation from there but knowing they saw themselves in that post was a great feeling because it wasn’t about them at all.

Can you tell why I see that as a compliment, Karen?

Because it resonated with them so thoroughly they saw themselves in it - to the point they actually thought it might have been inspired by them.

I have and will continue to use situations and conversations I have as a source of inspiration for the content I produce, just as I am with this email.

That feedback was exactly why I do it:

  • The conversations with one of my people can inevitably resonate with my people.
  • Solutions for the struggles that one of my people experience can help my people.
  • The AHA moments of one of my people can teach my people.

If that person I was talking to reads this, they’ll know they inspired it this time. But this is an exception in my content. Most of the time, the content I create is a combination of multiple inspiration sources, including my own personal learning as I navigate this adventure of entrepreneurship.
