Use systems to get unstuck
Writer's block isn't the only way we find our creativity lagging. It can also be an issue of the systems and processes (or lack of them) that keep our creative juices flowing.
Last summer, I hit a wall. I was struggling to come up with anything to say.
Don’t get me wrong. I knew I had things to say and I know what I have to say can help businesses. But I was totally uninspired.
Has that ever happened to you?
I’ve even written about writer’s block to share ideas to get past it. This went beyond writer’s block, though.
It took some effort but eventually, I figured out that I didn’t know what I wanted, much less how to get there!
Basically, I was the cobbler whose children had no shoes. (Except I was the marketer with no plan for how I was going to get my marketing tasks done.) 🤦🏼♀️
So, I started going over the wall by setting my content goals.
Then I decided how often I could realistically maintain different content activities long term.
I’ll admit I was a little unsure I could stick to my conservative schedule. My well of ideas and inspiration had dried up like a desert.
But it was the third step that made it all click.
I created a system that included setting up a content inventory. That library of content is one that was far bigger than I anticipated, and looking through it I could immediately see opportunities for new content based on topics I hadn't covered, different or new perspectives on old content.
It’s been so good but when I’m busy working in my business, it still gets a bit hard to keep up.
Sometimes I get stuck...again. So, to get unstuck, I go back to my systems and processes.
I know that happens to you and other business owners out there, too.
I needed to set up a system and process to meet my goals. And once I did, the floodgates were wide open again. It works like a charm every single time.
